Our world is constantly changing, and so is our society. Social practices are changing all the time. What men wouldn’t dream of doing 10 years ago is slowly becoming commonplace. The 21st century man is able to express his feelings and emotions, cook, decorate, and dress stylishly, all while maintaining his masculinity. So where does that leave you? Diagnosis

My MRI was read yesterday and the diagnosis was positive for a herniated disc at L5 S1 (a coordinate at the specific location in the spine.) I wanted to thank everyone who has sent me well wishes and also to let you know I am fine. I am quite a stoic person when it comes to pain.

The doctor prescribed me morphine last week, but I only took it for 2 days. Currently I am just trying to rest; my hope is that the inflammation dies down without the need for surgery. Oddly enough my younger brother just had surgery for this exact same thing in March however; the disc (in precisely the same location) was bulging quite substantially and causing him major complications with sciatica and numbness.

I will write more later. Again, thank you all, but you don’t have to be concerned as I am coping just fine.

i guess we won't be having kids together then.. my genetics are fucked as it is. ;)

all kidding aside, i'm glad everything is OK. i hope you won't have to have surgery, because it's scary. and i don't blame you for not taking the morphine.. it will make you itch like a monkey with fleas.

i've never had morphine... weed yes. tylenol 3 yes. mushrooms yes (unfortunately.) i think that drugs in general (especially prescription drugs) are a bad thing. eventually become accustomed to the shite and when you REALLY need it to work it doesn't do nuthin'.

It is always nice to finally get a diagnosis even if the diagnosis is a negative one. Now you will be able to take the steps towards recovery.
Hang in there and rest. Thinking about you. ;)

Venus, thank you very much, you're too kind.

Sarah, perhaps genetic enhancement is in order (for our child). *wink*

Thanks, yes the morphine makes most people itch as it did me, plus it makes you a bit cookoo!

Brokenguerilla, there are definitely prescription drugs that help many people to survive, but when people take them irresponsibly or they are prescribed irresponsibly they can do more harm than good.

Barbara, you are very sweet. I wouldnt say this is a terribly negative diagnosis because there is the chance for it to heal without surgery, but it is up to me to take care not to make things worse.

I hope the inflammation and pain goes away soon. Anything concerning your spine is quite scary.

I'll keep you in my prayers. I also hope there will be no surgery needed.

Rest up.

If it loosens up enough they may be able to pop it back in with some therapy.

I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Sue, I have been kind of doing that, but I have a hard time laying around. So I have been planting a few flowers. Nice to get your fingers in the earth.

Sarah, you are funny and a sweetheart. Did you see that episode of Seinfeld where the mother and girlfriend we competing to get up higher on the speed dial?

Lorena, you must be getting me back for me skipping your post. You spelled my name wrong. I dont know about exciting, but something should be coming soon.

Mermaid, I am getting better thanks for your advice. I try to cope in other ways. I try to get in 1 to 2 hours of yoga a day, which (according to Sting) makes you a great lover!

Sting and his wife do practice a form of tantra that I always found intriguing. As I get bigger, and feel like a beach whale, I joke with my husband that maybe we should check it out. I will one day...

Yoga's great, isn't it? I've learned to modify it to my own likes and dislikes, as long as it helps the problem areas.

I hope your family crisis is better. Are your parents OK?

Neel, OUCH! Why does The Good Lord play such dirty tricks on us men? I mean, c'mon, we already die 8 years earlier than women, isn't that enough??!! But the back? That's just an evil evil joke! :-) Good luck, and um, if your not going to use all that morphine, I know a failed guitarist that could!

Pallavi, Thank you, and its great having new readers thanks for stopping by.

Lorena, I know I was just teasing, easy mistake.

Srikar, thanks for visiting. I'll be round to yours.

Sk8r, I gave up the meds, apart from the occasional muscle relaxer. I am hoping I wont need surgery, I just need to take care not to injure it again.

Aaron, thanks for stopping by. Sounds like a pretty good deal, I would have to be purty foolish to pass it up... so sure, I'm in!

Boahbhan Sith, I'm doing okay, but I would like to be able to work out again, I have to wait about 6 weeks.

Mitzzee, pleasure my dear. *Muah!*

Mermaid, Yes, I was aware of Sting. He made stirred up quite a bit of controversy when he mentioned that he made love for something like 7 hours on one of the talk shows.

Yes, yoga can help the respiratory, digestive, endocrine, reproductive, and elimination systems. Also, its calming effects can illiminate insomnia caused by mental restlessness. Also, the breathing exercises are extremely benificial to those like me who suffer from asthma or other respitory ailments. Obviously I could go on and on, maybe in a future post. Thanks Mermaid for stimulating my mind once again.

M, where have you been? Anyway, great to have you back. I am going to be fine as long as I rest properly and take medication when necessary.

Sarah, I know this is a conversation between you and Aaron, but I really know nothing about corn nuts, sorry.

Jaxe, my Les Paul is pretty heavy on my back when it's aching. My Gretsch is a little lighter, but different sound as you know. I also have a pretty cool 61 SG Custom Shop in my collection of about 15. Would love to jam with you some time. Which failed guitarist are you refering to? Well, since I'm not going to use it sure!

Neel, you'll have to enlighten me to your Rock Star life and experiences, did you play in bands, cut Cd's, or just as a hobby, what kind of music, do you write / record anything now? I never really got out of the box so I just use it now as major stress relief :-) I'm a hack, but I love it. Post some of your mp3's MAN! Or let me know what recording software you use, maybe we could collaborate on something via email / file transfer. I have Acid Pro and Cakewalk Guitar Tracks for recording, and some bunk loops! I can't sing worth a crap, but I have to do it so I know where I am in the song, LOL!

Sorry post is so long, but that's the main reason I fired up my blog again, was to meet some people who play :-)

ROCK ON!

Just wanted to offer my support because I too had a herniated disc in the exact same position yours is. Mine required surgery because of sciatica and extreme nagging pain. It's a miserable situation but hopefully if you caught in early the pain killers and steroid shots will be of more help to you than they were to me. Herniated discs are miserable and most people don't understand so just letting you know that I feel your pain and wish you the best of luck! Feel free to ask me any questions about the surgery or procedure because I would strongly recommend it. I have been 100 percent since recovering.
